The Summer School followed a blended format. During the first week, delivered online, participants explored heritage-related concepts, worked in international teams and attended sessions on photography, image editing, digital printing, conservation and restoration. The second, on-site week enabled them to apply this knowledge in the laboratories of the Polytechnic University of Tomar through practical workshops on marbled paper, replicas of Portuguese tiles, chromatic reintegration, handmade paper production and creative bookbinding.
The programme also included visits to the Convent of Christ in Tomar and the Monastery of Alcobaça, offering direct contact with two major UNESCO World Heritage sites. This practical and place-based dimension encouraged participants to understand heritage not only as evidence of the past, but also as a living resource capable of inspiring new forms of creation, learning and innovation.
The participation of students and staff from different countries promoted communication, interdisciplinary cooperation and the exchange of cultural perspectives. Throughout the programme, participants produced a range of artefacts, including handmade and marbled paper, tile replicas, chromatic reintegration exercises and personalized notebooks combining digital processes with traditional techniques.
The event established itself as a strong example of active learning and European cooperation, reinforcing KreativEU’s contribution to the promotion of heritage, creativity and academic mobility.
