Four Game Design students from Södertörn University in Sweden travelled to Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) in the Netherlands to attend the "Entertainment Video Games as European Culture" conference, held on 29–30 June 2026 as part of their KreativEU exchange, and came away with fresh perspectives to bring back to their own studies.
Over the two days, the students - Gustav, Jona, Linn and Wilma - took part in a series of sessions exploring games in their many forms. One session, on how to apply to game studios and what employers actually look for, gave the group practical insight into the step from education to industry. Another, examining gender representation on game covers, sparked a discussion the group found themselves still reflecting on afterwards.
.
"Everything is, at the end of the day, political," the students said, "and we are in charge of pushing the changes we want to see in the games industry." It's a principle they say will stay with them as they continue creating their own games.
Alongside the conference programme, the students showcased two of their own games at the BUas Games Industry Showcase, and had the chance to see and play a wide range of projects developed by their peers — a highlight that gave them a broader sense of what students across the KreativEU network are building.
Looking back, the group said they would have valued the chance to see even more of everyday student life at BUas — sitting in on classes, hearing about course structures and study plans, and comparing notes with Dutch students on how programmes are run. It's exactly the kind of exchange of ideas KreativEU mobilities are designed to encourage.
Their advice to other students considering a similar exchange? Go for it. "We would definitely recommend this if you are interested in meeting new people and knowing more about the game industry," — and Breda's charm didn't go unnoticed either, with the group making the most of their free time exploring the city.

This exchange is one of many student mobility opportunities available across the KreativEU Alliance. Interested in a similar experience? Contact your university for the possibilities.
