Spring Open Science School – Strengthening Open Science Skills across Europe

13 Apr 2026 - 27 Apr 2026

The Spring Open Science School in Camerino - Italy -  is an intensive, practice-oriented programme designed to strengthen participants’ conceptual understanding and operational skills across the four core pillars of Open Science: Open Access, Open Data, Open Educational Resources, and Citizen Science.

The programme follows a blended format and is structured as a progressive learning journey, starting with an online introductory day on 13 April 2026, followed by five in-person thematic days in Camerino (20–24 April 2026), and concluding with an online wrap-up and reflection session on 27 April 2026.

This edition will also highlight how Open Science approaches can support cultural heritage research and practices, by improving access to knowledge, fostering transparent and reusable datasets, enabling open educational resources for heritage literacy, and encouraging meaningful participation of local communities through citizen-driven initiatives.

The programme will open with an introductory session on the foundations of Open Science and the European policy landscape, including connections to Horizon Europe, EU Open Science strategies, and COARA commitments. Each following day will focus on one pillar, combining structured conceptual sessions with interactive workshops, case studies, and applied exercises, offering participants concrete tools that can be transferred to research and institutional contexts, including in the cultural heritage domain.

Participants will benefit from contributions by top level national and international experts,  ensuring a diverse and multidisciplinary perspective. The School will conclude with a synthesis session highlighting key insights and actionable recommendations to support the adoption and dissemination of Open Science practices.

The Spring Open Science School is open to researchers at all career stages, including doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers and senior academics, as well as research managers, librarians and administrative staff supporting research activities. By bringing together scientific and support profiles, the initiative fosters a shared and integrated understanding of Open Science across research, management and institutional governance.
