One Year of the KreativEU Alliance: More Than a Project, It’s Our New European Family

When people hear "European University Alliance," they often envision stacks of paperwork and formal signatures. KreativEU is different. Our alliance is defined by the people who believe that our diverse local traditions and unique histories hold a rightful place in a united Europe - and that modern technology is the key to preserving them for future generations.

Imagine a network where every campus, stretching from the Atlantic coast to the shores of the Baltic, Black, and Mediterranean Seas, and into the heart of Central Europe, has its doors wide open to ten other regions. This is not just a partnership; it is a shared academic home where local heritage meets a global future."

The KreativEU Alliance brings together eleven European universities with the ambitious goal of gradually creating a single, interconnected academic institution. At its heart lie cultural heritage, creativity, and their intersection with technology and ecology. The project develops the concept of "eco-cultural identity," fostering joint study programs, collaborative research teams, and the use of Artificial Intelligence rooted in European values.

By 2034, the vision is to build a shared academic home with minimal administrative barriers. This isn't a random collection of schools; the members are linked by size and character. Most are based in historic towns facing similar challenges. It is through understanding our local heritage that we can better understand each other on a broader European scale.

A Shared Day Across the Continent

On January 13, 2026, the KreativEU Alliance - with Trnava University as a proud member - celebrated its first year of full operation. This wasn't just a milestone on paper; it was a symbolic moment that united eleven partner universities simultaneously.

The main event was hosted at the Polytechnic University of Tomar in Portugal and broadcast live. Other universities joined online, contributing their own short segments to create a vibrant, multilingual program that spanned the continent.

The celebration included partners from every corner of Europe:

  • West & South: Polytechnic University of Tomar (Portugal), University of Camerino (Italy), Breda University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands).
  • North: Södertörn University (Sweden), University of Greifswald (Germany).
  • Central & Eastern Europe: University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (Czech Republic), Opole University of Technology (Poland), D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics (Bulgaria), Valahia University of Târgoviște (Romania), Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University (Turkey), and our Trnava University.

Cake, Radio, and the "Human Touch"

The program avoided the dryness of a formal conference, opting instead for a community-driven atmosphere. Brief speeches were interspersed with informal contributions from students and staff. A birthday cake at each university served as a simple but powerful gesture, reminding us that this alliance is built on people, not paragraphs.

A major highlight of the day was the launch of KreativEU Radio. This new communication platform provides a space for sharing experiences, interviews, and podcasts between colleagues and students across Europe.

The spirit of the day was best captured by coordinator Célio Gonçalo Marques:

"Today was a day of deep emotion and pride. The KreativEU family came together to celebrate a year of dedication, achievement, and collective effort. We launched KreativEU Radio to give our community a voice. This moment belongs to all of us. Long live KreativEU!"

From Boardrooms to the Smolenice Castle

The recent days proved that KreativEU is much more than a digital connection on a screen. On Friday, February 6, 2026, at the invitation of the Rector of Trnava University, rectors and representatives from our partner universities traveled directly to Trnava. During official working sessions, they reflected on a successful first year, evaluated milestones, and spoke openly about the challenges ahead in building a common academic space.

However, professional duties soon gave way to a profound cultural experience. Our guests attended the 20th Representative Ball of Trnava University, held in the fairytale setting of Smolenice Castle.

This venue perfectly underscored the identity of our university and the entire alliance. As a historic landmark nestled in the nature of the Little Carpathians, Smolenice Castle served as a living illustration of what KreativEU stands for: respect for the history and cultural heritage that unites us, regardless of which part of Europe we call home. Our partners experienced Trnava’s hospitality firsthand, strengthening the friendships that form the bedrock of our alliance.
