Living Heritage – Crafted, Performed, Remembered is a walking seminar that examines how cultural heritage in Slovakia is sustained through practice, participation, and long-term relationships with the landscape. Rather than treating heritage as a fixed object, the seminar focuses on processes through which skills, knowledge, and meanings are enacted and transmitted.
The programme brings together crafted heritage (pottery, textile, and other material practices), performed heritage (rituals and communal enactments), and remembered heritage rooted in intergenerational transmission and community memory. Participants engage directly with craftspeople, heritage institutions, and local actors, approaching heritage through participation rather than observation.
Landscape-based practices in the Small Carpathians, including viticulture and beekeeping, illustrate how everyday engagement with place shapes living heritage. Through site visits, workshops, and guided walks, the seminar reflects a participatory approach to heritage and considers landscape as a setting where cultural practice, sensory experience, and wellbeing intersect.
