Between September 17 and 19, 2025, Opole University of Technology hosted the inaugural international hackathon under the KreativHack OUTech initiative, as part of the KreativEU European alliance. This event brought together 22 students representing partner universities from eight countries to face the challenge of developing artificial intelligence-based tools to safeguard and promote cultural heritage.
Over the course of 24 intense hours, six teams formed, ideated, and built prototypes combining cutting-edge technology with history and tradition. The projects addressed a range of ideas, all aiming for innovation and long-term impact.
The winning team, HarmonAI, impressed the judges with an augmented reality application that allows visitors to place and view 3D models of monuments and artefacts — even those that no longer exist — in any chosen location.
Beyond prizes, the hackathon offered students experience working in international, interdisciplinary teams; exposure to real challenges in AI and cultural preservation; and new professional and interpersonal networks. Opole University of Technology is proud of all participants and looks forward to future editions of Hackathons.
