We invite you to an interdisciplinary meeting of doctoral students and students that connects cultural heritage, current research, and academic practice. The aim of the event is to create a space for dialogue across disciplines, sharing research approaches, and developing professional and transferable skills.

From 22 to 26 June 2026, the University of Greifswald will host a Walking Seminar on the topic of "Changing Cultural Landscapes. Pomerania - The Land by the Sea". The event is a collaboration between the Old University Library, the University Archives and the Pomeranian State Museum and will focus on topics such as monument preservation and the relationship between humans and the sea. More information will follow shortly!

The conference “Imagination and Heritage” will take place in Mação on the 24th and 25thMarch, as part of the programme of the 12th edition of the APHELEIA International Seminar. The event is co-organized by the Polytechnic University of Tomar and the University of Târgoviște.

We are pleased to invite you to take part in the 15th Erasmus Partnership Conference, which will be held at the Opole University of Technology from 20 to 24 April 2026.

During the first semester of this academic year, one class of Greifswald University and one class of Polytechnic University of Tomar (from Higher School of Technology of Abrantes), both in the Media Studies field, developed a common project about the consumption of Media, through the screens, amongst young people of both countries: Germany and Portugal. Besides the research involved, the 23 students also had the opportunity to meet online to discuss their findings.

We are pleased to announce the upcoming international conference Ecocultural Heritage: research & education, which will take place in České Budějovice 2.-6.11.2026.

At Work Package 5 - led by Breda University of Applied Sciences -, we’re on a mission to bring together artificial intelligence, sustainability, and cultural heritage to shape a more connected and responsible European future. We’re proud to share that we have successfully delivered our first task and assembled a great team of experts from partner institutions who are exploring how to make AI not only smart and efficient, but also ethical, sustainable, and meaningful. This network brings together a diverse group of specialists from fields such as AI, sustainability, history, ethics, anthropology and more, and aims to build long-term partnerships!

The seminar combines academic inquiry with experiential learning, providing a dynamic format where walking serves as a tool for reflection, dialogue, and discovery. Participants will explore rulers’ courts, monasteries, museums, and urban spaces, while engaging in collaborative sessions on heritage preservation, cultural sustainability, and European identity.

Living Heritage – Crafted, Performed, Remembered is a walking seminar that examines how cultural heritage in Slovakia is sustained through practice, participation, and long-term relationships with the landscape.

On 13 December 2025, the preparatory workshop on intercultural competence and negotiation training took place, this time as a cooperation between KreativEU and the Associated Partner GreiMUN e.V..

The University of Greifswald was actively represented at the annual EUN conference of the DAAD on December 9th and 10th, 2025 by the student vice-rector and the project coordinator of the UG.

The Polytechnic University of Tomar (IPT) hosted, on 13 January, a commemorative ceremony marking the first anniversary of the funding awarded by the European Commission to KreativEU – Knowledge & Creativity European University. The event took place at the IPT campus in Tomar and celebrated one year of activity of this European University Alliance.

Join us for a week of inspiration, connection and professional development. This year's programme explores digital opportunities such as AI, while keeping the human touch at the heart of what we do. Topics include student well-being, sustainability, and crisis management during mobility. The programme features guest speakers, interactive sessions and job shadowing opportunities with BUas colleagues.

As a Leisure & Events Management student, Tímea had the opportunity to travel to Trnava because BUas was one of the co-organisers of the Living Heritage Conference. It was the perfect chance for her to experience the organisation of an international academic event first-hand.

BUas is delighted to announce the upcoming walking seminar “Living Stories”, an immersive programme inviting participants to discover Breda through its vibrant murals and the narratives behind them. Held from 2–6 February 2026, the seminar brings together partners from across the KreativEU network to explore how public art shapes our understanding of place, community, and creativity.

At the DAAD workshop held in Greifswald from 24 to 26 November 2025, representatives from the University of Greifswald and Breda University of Applied Sciences met in person to explore opportunities for cooperation in the digital field.

The first KreativEU International Student Festival takes place at Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands on 20–22 May 2026. More information will follow soon.

From 19 to 21 November 2025, KreativEU held its 1st Annual Student Conference, with just over 100 students participating in 14 different events.

Artificial Intelligence is transforming our world—from healthcare to climate modelling, traffic systems to cultural preservation. But this revolution demands reflection and responsibility. What values guide AI design? Who benefits? How do we ensure AI contributes to a sustainable, inclusive future? These questions drive KreativEU's core focus: Ethical-by-Design and Sustainable-by-Design AI. By leading this investigation, BUas positions itself as a European frontrunner in value-driven technological innovation.

We invite distinguished scholars, researchers, and practitioners to engage in a rigorous and intellectually stimulating exchange of ideas on cultural heritage conservation, fostering dialogue that bridges theoretical inquiry and applied practice across disciplines.

As part of the KreativEU alliance, the University of South Bohemia (USB) recently completed a comprehensive collection of information on existing research projects and expressed interest in future cooperation. Data from academic teams at the University of South Bohemia were collected using a form for mapping existing projects and a form for mapping research interests. The collected information is currently being analyzed and will serve as the basis for the creation of new interdisciplinary research groups within KreativEU. The aim of this initiative is to strengthen international cooperation, promote innovation, and support the exchange of knowledge and expertise across different scientific disciplines.

Valahia University of Târgoviște is proud to announce the agenda for The 1st Colloquium of PhD Students in KreativEU Doctoral Programmes, which will take place 19–21 November 2025. The event is organised by Valahia University of Târgoviște and co-organised by the University of Greifswald together with the other nine universities of the KreativEU Alliance, within the framework of Work Package 2 – Education. The initiative is co-funded by the European Union.

On 7 November 2025, Sabrina Repp, Member of the European Parliament, visited the KreativEU team at the University of Greifswald. Student Vice-Rector Lukas Voigt also took part in the meeting. 

The first KreativEU networking conference built bridges between disciplines and nations

In October 2025, the KreativEU team in Greifswald presented the vision, goals, and achievements of KreativEU to the academic senate. To kick off the new academic year, KreativEU UG team members also hosted information stands at various events for first-year students.  

An expert team from KreativEU - WP5 - has published a white paper examining the relationship between artificial intelligence, sustainability, and European cultural heritage. The document provides a shared conceptual foundation for the multidisciplinary 'WP5' expert team.

We are delighted to announce the 1st Colloquium of PhD Students in KreativEU Doctoral Programmes, hosted under the auspices of the KreativEU Alliance. This inaugural event aims to promote interdisciplinary dialogue, collaborative research development, and academic exchange among doctoral candidates from partner institutions.

The colloquium will feature training sessions on:

• Open Access Publishing
• Academic Writing
• Good Scientific Practice
• Presentation of the KreativEU Advisory Pool

A key theme will be the Co-Creation of Joint Doctoral Programmes, encouraging participatory models of doctoral education within the Alliance.

European researchers unite AI, sustainability and cultural heritage to tackle global challenges.

During a recent international visit to the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, the General Secretary of KreativEU, Célio Gonçalo Marques, met with Rector Pavel Kozák.

On 12 September 2025, the KreativEU team from the University of Greifswald visited the Heimvolkshochschule in Lubmin, in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald – an associated partner of the university alliance.

Between September 17 and 19, 2025, Opole University of Technology hosted the inaugural international hackathon under the KreativHack OUTech initiative, as part of the KreativEU European alliance.

Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) is the first higher education institution in ​the 
E​U​ to make Claude ​for Education​ Anthropic's AI platform available institution-wide. With this step, BUas integrates generative AI in a way that aligns with its vision for future-proof and ethical education. 

The KreativEU Alliance has launched its transnational course catalogue, a major step towards fostering student mobility and collaboration among the partner universities.

The conference “New Trends in bioScience 3 – History, Traditions and Innovative Approaches”, is organized by the Faculty of Science at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice from October 6–8, 2025.

The European Commission has proposed a new long-term budget for 2028–2034, with a strong focus on education, youth, and cultural heritage. This is great news for universities and our alliance KreativEU.

We invite staff of universities affiliated with the KreativEU European University, who are active in the field of quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation of educational, research and organizational processes, to participate in the Blended Intensive Programme.

KreativEU aims for a transdisciplinary form of teaching with a broad range of subjects such as heritage, use of AI and more. The first KreativEU Annual Student Conference will take place from 19 to 21 November 2025.

The World Leisure Congress will be organised for the eighteenth time. Two years ago, the congress was held in New Zealand and this year, Breda University of Applied Sciences will organise this international event from 25 to 28 August. Around five hundred academia and professionals from the leisure industry will visit Breda to enter into discussions about the theme ‘Leisure for a Better Society’. How can we deploy leisure to make society a bit more beautiful and better?

We are pleased to reflect on the international event hosted at BUas from 16 to 19 June 2024. This KreativEU gathering was a success, characterised by enriching discussions and engaging activities. 

We are proud to announce that the KreativEU consortium, including BUas, and our European university partners, has been officially recognised as a UNESCO UNITWIN Network. This milestone strengthens our commitment to heritage preservation, scientific research, and sustainable development on a global scale. 

Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) proudly inaugurated three new professors on Tuesday 15 April. Each leads a professorship that embodies the institute’s commitment to co-creation, inclusivity, and societal impact. Professors Jörn Fricke, Jessika Weber Sabil, and Carlos Pereira Santos delivered their inaugural lectures to a Chapel filled with colleagues, family, and friends, shedding light on their visions for the professorships.  

Jorrit Snijder, President of the Executive Board of Breda University of Applied Sciences, was a guest at an important European meeting at the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research in Sorbonne, Paris, on 5 May. As a representative of both BUas and the European university alliance KreativEU, he took part in discussions about the future of science and higher education in Europe.

What stays with you after a show? How does a night at the theatre affect you? The research project Beyond Applause offers a new way to understand and measure the impact of performing arts. Chassé Theater (Breda), Parkstad Limburg Theaters (Heerlen, Kerkrade and Sittard), and Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) spent a year working together to develop a practical tool that captures the meaning of theatre experiences for audiences. 

In a period when the challenges of artificial intelligence and data science are emerging as strategic priorities on a global scale, aivancity School of AI & Data for Business & Society and Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) have entered into a major academic partnership.

In an incredible achievement, Atan — a student game developed by a talented team from Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) — has won the BAFTA Student Award in the Games category! The award was announced during the ceremony on 13 June, placing Atan at the very top of an international field of student-created games.

The 2nd Annual International KreativEU Conference (CILRAID 2025) was held at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Opole University of Technology. The conference was part of a five-day gathering on June 2-6, during which the main event was the conference itself, accompanied by a series of meetings and side events.

João Freitas Coroado, President of the Polytechnic of Tomar, the lead institution in this consortium that brings together European higher education institutions, explains how the KreativEU – Knowledge & Creativity European University became a reality. Heritage is the main idea that unites the 11 institutions of KreativEU.

The University of Greifswald took part in the "European Universities  Weeks" (Wochen der Europäischen Hochschulen) organised by the German  Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

With the new mobility coordinator having started on 28 April 2025,  the KreativEU team for the University of Greifswald is complete.

The Faculty of Economics of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Czech Republic, is promoting the BIP "Entrepreneurship through Sustainability Lens", for students.

The Opole University of Technology is promoting the BIP Gaza strip reconstruction - International Design Summer School, aimed at students, which will take place between 6 and 13 July.

The Opole University of Technology (Poland) is promoting the BIP Eco-vision for sustainable cities: integrating water, wastewater, and energy in line with new EU standards, aimed at students, which will take place between 23 and 27 June.

Opole University of Technology in Poland will host the Erasmus Partnership Conference 2025, which will take place from 3 to 6 June 2025.

SustainMV – the summer school on sustainability – will take place this year for the fifth time! SustainMV on-site will take place August 25th until September 5th. It is preceded by a three-day online introduction to the subject from August 19th until August 21th.

KreativEU attended the meeting of European universities "Shaping the future: European University Alliances for a Competitive Europe", held in Brussels on 26 and 27 February and promoted by the European Commission.

The Portuguese delegation visited the research centres of Valahia University of Târgoviște, in Romania, promoting cooperation between academia and civil society. 

On 20 February, the Mayor of Tomar Hugo Cristovão and the Pro-Rector of the Polytechnic University of Tomar Célio Gonçalo Marques, were received at the Svishtov City Hall by the Mayor of Svishtov Gencho Bozhinov Genchev, and the President of the Svishtov City Council Kristiyan Kirilov, for the solemn signing of the twinning protocol between the cities of Tomar and Svishtov, Bulgaria.

On 19 February, a conference was held at Valahia University in Târgoviște, Romania, to mark the funding of the European alliance KreativEU and to celebrate the twinning of the cities of Tomar and Târgoviște.

KreativEU Hosts the 1st annual International Conference on Heritage, Science, and Technologies for Sustainable Preservation

In December 2023, the KreativEU Alliance fostered even closer involvement of students, through the organisation of eleven national focus groups and an international one.

The project HERITAGE GAME - A gamification model for community-based heritage work (2023-1-PT01-KA220-HED-000154261), developed by the KreativEU partners within the scope of key actions 2 (Cooperation partnerships) of the Erasmus+ program, was approved for funding.
